May 8, 2005 2 cool new movie trailers are online this weekend. May 6, 2005 I went to see the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy last weekend with my friend Matt. I'm a big fan of the book, TV show, and Radio show and I was really excited about the movie version finally coming out. Although I didn't hate it like this guy did. I didn't love it either like this guy. I thought Sam Rockwell and Mos Def were great but Zooey Deschanel and Martin Freeman fell short of my expectations. It's hard to not compare Simon Jones version of Arthur Dent to Martin Freeman's. Overall I think the TV show and book was much funnier. But I didn't hate it. It was certainly entertaining and it had it's share of funny moments. Just not as many as I had hoped. I'm not a stickler for being true to the book like a lot of other people. But Some of the changes that were made seemed a little unnecessary. I wasn't sure if John Malkovich's character was suppose to be some sort of villain or not. I assume he was suppose to be intimidating in some way by the intense music that played during his scene but he didn't seem like any kind of threat to the heroes of the film. It seems like you could just push him over and his little brass legs wouldn't be able to lift his torso off the ground. And that whole scene didn't even pay off in the end. I knew that they added a love story between Arthur and Trillian going in so I was prepared. But it still seemed awkward to me. You're in the middle of a light hearted funny film and every now and then it get serious and emotional. It's like sitting around with a bunch of friends telling jokes and someone interrupts with a story about their dog dying. I suppose if I hadn't been anticipating this movie for so long these things wouldn't have bothered me so much . Most people I've talked to seem to like it. But like I said, I didn't hate it. But I didn't love it either.
Check out this funny short film starring Sam Rockwell as Batman and Justin Long as Robin. Sam Rockwell's performance as Batman in this short film is more like what I imagined his performance as Zaphod Beeblebrox was going to be. Although I can't complain about his take on Zaphod. He stole the show in Hitchhiker Guide.
